I have been with my wife Nancy for over 20 years. We have three children: a daughter(not pictured) who is an attorney in Ohio, a son who is a Corvette and European specialist at Precision Automotive here in Paris, and a son who is an EOD and soon to be Army master sergeant and and has been accepted for the Army’s two-year flight training program for Chinook helicopters.
“I retired from BMW USA in 2004.” Hommel said. “Until 2017 I put my 30+ years as a master carpenter to use ‘house flipping" . Nancy and I moved here in 2020 from Las Vegas. We love it here. This is our retirement home. As a lifelong conservative it wasn’t long after arriving that I got involved in Texas and local politics. I may not be a lifelong resident of Lamar County, but I have been active in pursuing its best interests since moving here. I bring experience from outside Texas – I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t work in other places I’ve lived. My numerous testimonies before the Texas legislature and the Lamar County Commissioners’ Court on various issues wasn’t because I was the Lamar County Republican Party Chairman, it was because I believed in the causes and that standing up for them was the right thing to do.” I am a conservative and former chair of the Lamar County Republican Party.

Testified before Texas House subcommittees supporting
restricting land purchases in Texas by foreign hostile countries,
o keeping sexually explicit materials our of our schools and boys out of girls bathrooms, locker rooms and sports,
o eliminating the property tax, but eliminating property taxes for property owners. As long as they reside in Texas.
· Testified before the Lamar County Commissioners’ Court, often when non of the other Candidates would.
o to increase the number of Sheriff department staff by two deputies and increase their pay,
o To add a support Full time staff member to the County Veterans’ Affairs Office.
o to oppose county financial support in the form of tax abatements that encourage the installation of environmentally unfriendly wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) sites.
· Worked to have the book, “The Bluest Eye,” and other pornographic books removed from a Lamar County school district.
· Represented Lamar County as a delegate to the 2022 and 2024 GOP state conventions, and as a member of the 2022 Convention’s Legislative Priorities committee.
· Appointed by Sid Miller, Texas Agriculture Commissioner, in 2023, and I continue to serve as an Honorary Agriculture Commissioner.
· Building a new Sheriff’s department and Jail. The current facility has outlived its useful life and the jail is continually overcrowded. Putting off building a new facility will only be more painful in the future. Converting and upgrading the current Jail into a Juvenile Detention Center.

· Consolidating the four road departments into a single county road department. I propose hiring a county engineer to head a consolidated road department and develop a coordinated maintenance plan. Our county roads are terrible in places, to the point of being unsafe to travel. And, their condition isn’t just about the comfort of driving without wearing out your car’s suspension. They can be dangerous obstacle courses for emergency vehicles in route to fires or ambulances transporting patients to the hospital. There is no consistency between the four departments, to include standardized diesel fuel for vehicles and heavy equipment. There is currently no overall county plan for road maintenance.
